Ruth Evelyn Sturtz

February 21, 1932 — March 8, 2022

Mom was born on February 21, 1932 at the family farm out of Cohagen, MT. She passed away peacefully at the Legacy Assisted Living facility in Dillon MT on March 8, 2022. Ruth was the third of six children born to Reier and Elise Svenson. She attended schools in Cohagen and Jordan, where she would live part time in the dormitories of each town. While attending high school in Jordan she met her future husband, Ted Sturtz. They were later married on December 24, 1950. Ted and Ruth had three sons; Paul, Steve and Rob.

Ruth was born and raised during the depression which was at times difficult but also built a close family that was strong and resilient. She had many happy memories of growing up in Garfield County and had an inner strength that gave her a positive outlook and easy laugh. Her faith in God’s promises was a comfort to her. She was greatly loved and we will miss her.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Ted, brother Martin Svenson, and sisters Marge Edsall and Betty Bozarth. She is survived by her sons, Paul (Katherine Kountz) of East Helena, Steve of Dillon, and Rob (Shelley) of Ennis, grandsons Jason, Bradley, Tommy and granddaughter Kaitlyn, who was her pride and joy. Ruth is also survived by her loving sister Lucine (Bill) Haney of Sheridan and brother Ben (Shirley) Svenson of Glendive, MT.

We would like to thank the entire staff at the Legacy and Barrett Hospice Care for their wonderful care and love they showed our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s name to the Ruby Valley Medical Center, Ambulance Service or Search and Rescue.
