John Fredrick Anderson

Fred Anderson, a long-time resident of Whitehall, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Homestead in Rexburg, Idaho on July 29, 2021 with his family by his side. John Frederick Anderson was born on October 13, 1933 to Hans Anderson and Marie Margaret Mikkelsen Anderson and was the oldest of 5 children. His first childhood home was in Fish Creek and his family later moved to Waterloo. It was in Waterloo that Fred met his wife of 64 years, LaDawn Layne. LaDawn and Fred were married in Whitehall on October 15, 1955 and made Whitehall their home where they raised 12 children.

Fred made a living over the years as an electrician, working in the Butte mines and eventually driving semis. He and LaDawn purchased “Pete” in 1983 and went into business on their own. Anderson Livestock Hauling began hauling cows, traveling as far east as Nebraska and many trips west to Washington. Eventually Fred expanded and hauled landscape rocks and fencing logs with his flatbed and ice to West Yellowstone with his refrigerated trailer in the summer. Fred and LaDawn enjoyed traveling together in “Pete” and Fred drove until he was 81 years old.

Fred is survived his children, Barbara Anderson, Peggy (Bob McClellan), David (Erin) Anderson, Susan (Paul) Siddoway, Jeanette (John) Barrick, Nancy (Scott) Johnson, Amy (Bill) Davis, Brenda Anderson, Beverly (Roger) Gout, Gordon (Cami) Anderson, Daniel Anderson, his brother, Bill Anderson, sister Phyllis Heinz, 26 grand children and 38 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, LaDawn Anderson, their infant son Frederick Anderson, his parents Hans and Marie Anderson and his sisters Johanna Anderson and Sally Jorgensen.

Funeral services for Fred will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021 in the Whitehall LDS Chapel at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.
