Edward Armstrong of Cardwell, MT passed away on May 3rd, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Ed was born August 10th, 1951 in Natick, Massachusetts to Charles M and June Armstrong. He was raised on the family ranch. In his youth he was involved in FFA, 4-H Club, and sports. He graduated in 1969. Ed worked on the ranch, was a mason, carpenter, and held various other jobs.
In 1983 he married the love of his life, Ellie. Together they raised four children. Ed was called to the road for trucking. He and Ellie traveled all over the country during his years with BitterRoot Trucking. He and Ellie settled back on the ranch and he worked for Madison County until his retirement in 2013. He was a member of the Fireman’s Board, served as President for a time, and was also a volunteer firefighter until 2011. He also lovingly cared for his wife Ellie after she suffered multiple strokes in 1993. He served his community in various ways and his neighbors for most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ellie, his parents Charles and June, his son Steven, and his dogs.
Ed is survived by his daughter Claudia Best (Mike Land), son Dennis O. Best, Jr (Gary Necci), daughter Sue Ellen Bauer (Delon), brothers Pete, John (Mary), Tom (Kim), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Ed will be remembered for his love for the family ranch and his kind, selfless spirit. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family, especially his brother and best friend John.
There will be a graveside service at South Boulder Cemetery in Cardwell, MT on Sunday, May 9th at 1pm. Reception to follow at the Cardwell Community Church.
Memorials can be made in his honor to the Madison County Volunteer Fire Department.
